Wouldn’t It Be Nice

By Neda Dallal

We take our first steps and stumble and fall.
We cry for a small scrape while running down the hall.
And wouldn’t it be nice if we were older?

We swoon over our first crush
And anticipate the skipping heart beat rush
And wouldn’t it be nice if we were older?

We pour out our feelings, life’s just not fair.
Our parents are unreasonable and we really couldn’t care.
And wouldn’t it be nice if we were older?

We have responsibilities, taxes, work.
Our stressful lives drive us berserk.
And wouldn’t it be nice if we were older?

We have back pains, knee pains, body pains,
And suddenly we find more beauty in the rain
A young child stumbles and falls
Scraping her knee as she runs down the hall
And wouldn’t it be nice if we were younger?
