WINGS

By Samantha Glazer

I wish that I could fly across this world
And watch the people turn and gasp aloud,
As they look up at lovely wings unfurled
I claim my right to soar the skies, unbound.

I long to fly: above the trees I’m free
The air against my face more pure than gold
And those below, only shadows they see.
Birds float along. The gravity won’t hold.

I rise above the night my heart is free.
I know it’s music in the air tonight
It fills the clouds, the air and land and sea.
My wings compose melodies in flight.

Alas, but wings I lack and here I stand-
The ground begs me to find my love on land.
