The Drive We Must Make

by Kaelan Nettleship

It takes a drive:
to get that feeling,
when the air hits your lungs
and life has no cieling
It takes a drive:
to see the world in its immensity,
where you can sit on a perch
and search, and search
without ever glimpsing the end of the earth

It takes a drive:
To escape from instant gratification
Who would have thought,
that we’d lose sight of simple elation

Where will we have to drive to next?
When will there be no place left?
Who will ever stand up and be strong,
to make our drive a little less long
