Alley

By Kalin Stovall

The girl in the alley walked on forever

The smell of mud and rust consumed her

The forest lay just beyond her reach

Remembering times past

A child longing for affection

Deep blue lines ran parallel to the alley

Shoe laces wrapped around her wrist

Mice ran along and stopped and turned

They told her to run and never look back

She walked with her wooden leg

Each step a tick closer to the edge

The green glistened back at her

And she knew the sun would soon disappear

Moons cried and musicians danced

Fear in the air

Death in an alley
